The London-Jazz-Trio had a lovely introduction to 2013 with a great contrast in playing styles to suit the events. Just before new years eve we played a wonderful champagne reception at the prestigious One Whitehall Place. This is a great venue, in the heart of London, just by the Thames with an array of large, impressive rooms. We had fun with a wonderfully up-beat Oscar Peterson style  set, yet we are also able to keep it quiet, bubbling with contained energy. This style is such fun (and difficult!) to play but it also emits an infectious energy. By contrast,  we played a wonderfully sophisticated and calm new years day brunch at the elegant Great Fosters in Surrey.  For this event we changed the style more towards Bill Evans, with sophisticated Ravel style harmony and a quiet thoughtful approach rather than the more rhythm based hard swing of the Peterson sound.
